Mike couldn’t stand seeing Quinn cling to the pillow. He wanted to hold her, and since she realized it was the real him, he didn’t hold back. He walked over to her and sat down next to her before gently prying the pillow from her hold. “Quinn whatever he did, I am so sorry. I wish I could go back and change it.” He held both of her hands in his and kissed them. “You know I’d do anything to protect you.”
Quinn’s heart skipped a beat as she had the pillow removed from her and felt Mike’s lips on her hands. She had spent the entire day trying to deny her feelings for him, but they all rushed back in the blink of an eye, and she felt a lump form in her throat she knew that she had to speak over. “Someone decided to spread the rumor that you cheated on me with Britts and I defended you both,” she began to explain what had happened. “Then whoever it was told me it was true and initially said that it was Brittany who kissed them, and then I got them to tell the truth.” She shrugged, looking away at first before looking into Mike’s eyes; she knew they were really his eyes now. “And then I broke it off and…” The lump in her throat finally took over; could she say that she loved him now? She looked over at Brittany, hesitance in her eyes. She’d been through so much that she was scared to proceed further.
Brittany tucked her feet beneath her as she reclined against the arm of one of the couches. She was impressed with Mike’s courage; it was definitely a good thing that he made the first move. When Quinn made eye contact with her, almost asking permission to proceed, the Hufflepuff hedged. “We know you’re sorry, Mike. But you didn’t really do anything wrong so an apology is nice but not so much useful. Why don’t you, like, tell her what you’re thinking, how it makes you feel and all that stuff?” she suggested. She knew her best friend well enough to know that the Ravenclaw would never forgive herself if the l-word came from her first.
