“Just like that,” he confirmed, giving her a soft squeeze. “Of course I believe you, Brittany. I know we’ve had crazy up and downs lately, but I know you well enough to know you’d never lie to me about something this huge. Especially not about Quinn.” After a beat, he added, “I know you wouldn’t lie to me about anything, actually. Unless you were sworn to secrecy. I just…I have to admit, I’m freaking out a bit. It’s scary not knowing what’s happening with them right now, and anything I can do to keep them safe? I’ll do it. I liked Caroline but…not more than I’m going to care for Quinn and I’s kid. I’m going to man up, and do the right thing, and take care of him or her.”
"It’s really no wonder she fell so deeply in love with you," the blonde said with a half smile. "You’re a good friend and a good man. Or at least you will be, right? I mean, I’m not a woman yet so you’re not a man yet, right? We’ve got our whole lives ahead of us," she rambled, even as she wondered how much of it was true. His and Quinn’s lives were going to change, had already changed, at least in their perception of their world. "You know I’m gonna be there, like, all the time, right? I know you’ll do the right thing. You already have," she said as she curled up into his chest. "Are you okay? I haven’t even asked. I mean, this is, like, gianormous."
Mike listened to Brittany and frowned, realizing finally just how scared Brittany was. He was scared out of his mind too; but he was able to push aside his emotions for a second. Brittany needed him to be strong. “I know, Britt. I’m scared too. But Quinn is going to be okay, and uh, what’d you call it? Wibbly is going to be okay too. Don’t worry. Watch.” He took out a parchment and wrote a quick, messy, to-the-point letter to Caroline ending things. He attached it to his owl and watched her take off. “Look, see? That will already help them both already. Don’t worry,” he said, wrapping her up into a hug.
Brittany watched as he wrote, his handwriting even worse than normal, not hesitating for even a fraction of a second. As his owl flew out of the tower, she felt momentarily bad for Caroline, but knew the girl would probably be relieved once she found out her boyfriend was going to be a papa. “Just like that?” she asked, her voice small, letting out a heavy breath as he pulled her into a hug. “I was afraid you wouldn’t believe me or that you had moved on and wouldn’t care or would think I was making it up or something,” she confessed into his shoulder.
Mike barely registered Brittany punching his arm as his head was still reeling from the new information. “She’s pregnant. With my baby. And I put them in danger by dating Caroline because of a veela curse. That’s right, right? That’s what I’m getting from this conversation so correct me if I’m hearing anything wrong. Holy shit. My parents are going to go ape shit. I’m going to have a kid, a kid with Quinn. Holy shit. How is she? Is she okay? We have to see her,” he rambled, still overwhelmed by what he was learning.
Brittany nodded, staying quiet for a bit as her friend tried to process this information. It was pretty big. Actually, it was fucking huge and life altering and intense and even more so since Quinn wasn’t here with them. “Basically, from what I understand anyway. I mean, I haven’t had direct contact with her at all. One of Quinnie’s nurses snuck me a few owls, but she was seriously putting herself at risk to do it. I don’t know how Frannie got the owl out that she sent to me, but I still have no idea where they are. I wish I knew how she was. I’m terrified, honestly. I’m so, so scared, Mike. You know how bad it was for Frannie…” she trailed off, biting her lip to try to stave off the tears that were threatening again.
Mike’s first response was a confused, “Brittany, what the hell is wibbly?” His next response was to get a little weak in the knees. Quinn had almost died. His mind couldn’t even process that right away. He leaned backwards until he was sitting on the bed, making sure to support Brittany so she wouldn’t fall. “I didn’t…I…what?” He ran a hand through his hair, just trying to give himself a moment for his brain to catch up. “Seeing Caroline is killing Quinn?”
Exasperated at Mike for not understanding, Brittany roughly ran her fingers through her hair, pushing the blonde mop out of her face. “It means ‘I’m grounded’ or ‘I broke something’ or ‘I’m pregnant’. The first two aren’t going to kill her. Yes, Veela curse, catch up, Mike Chang,” she scolded lightly, her eyebrows furrowed together. “Women in the Fabray line have almost unbearably hard pregnancies. Don’t you remember everything that happened with Frannie? Quinn literally saved her and Melie’s lives! The Fat Friar helped me find information on it and we figured out it was from a jealous Veela’s curse. There’s a whole sordid family thing and stuff, but none of that really matters,” she explained, shaking her head to get back to the important part. “What matters is that the kiwi knows or the curse knows and you have to stop!”
She almost died rang through his ears like a shotgun blast. So many questions wanted to pour out, but he knew he should hold it in so Brittany could get a hold of herself. He wrapped his arms around her waist, trying to keep her upright and comfort her at the same time. “I have to stop doing what, Britt? Who am I killing? I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he replied gently. In the back of his mind he knew it was Quinn, but he wanted to hear Brittany say her name. He wanted her to explain herself.
"Quinn!" Brittany cried, as though it should be obvious. She swiped at her face with the back of her hand, clearing the tears away in an effort to focus. It was important that Mike understood what was going on. "Wibbly," she said plainly, looking him in the eyes. "Quinn is wibbly and you being with Caroline is killing her because of a Veela curse and she loves you and as long as you loved her back it wasn’t so bad but when you moved on the kiwi knew or something and the curse kicked in and she’s just been sicker and sicker and Frannie sent me an owl and told me to tell you because she almost died!"
Mike got back from a date with Caroline and took off his shirt and pants. He changed into Gryffindor sweat pants and the matching t-shirt, wanting nothing more than to lay in bed and finish some homework. Well he wasn’t in the mood to do homework, but the bed part sounded pretty great. He sat on the bed, sighing contently at the softness of his mattress. He was completely startled when two people barged into his room, causing him to stand quickly and drop his books to the ground. He immediately recognized Brittany, and the other being a random Gryffindor. “Brittany? What? What is it?” She looked absolutely upset, and he was scared for what she was going to say.
Brittany let go of the poor boy, a tiny part in the back of her brain memorizing his face so she could apologize later, flinging herself at Mike. “She almost died!” she cried, knowing his strong limbs would support her. They had danced together far too often for her to even consider that he might drop her. It took her several minutes before she could get her breathing under enough control to make any sense whatsoever, only getting out fragments of words about Frannie and owl and scared and secret. Finally, through hiccoughing breaths, she pulled away from him a bit, his shoulder soaked with her tears. “You have to stop. I’m not exaggerating. If you don’t stop, it will kill her,” she said, tears still streaming down her face.

Britt we should add this to our tricks.
That’s amazing. We definitely should.
“I won’t want it back,” he replied bitterly. “I told you, I can’t be reading it all the time. It makes me so damn sad.” He looked over at Brittany and saw the pain in her eyes, the mirror image of his own. “You’ll see her again, Brittany,” he replied gently, wanting to comfort his friend. He couldn’t help but feel pain as he said those words though. He knew Quinn wasn’t coming back for him. Even if she did, he didn’t think he’d be able to be with her again. Not after falling so hard and fast for her and then getting dumped even quicker.
“You have to much history with her. She’s your family. Of course you’ll see her again.”
Brittany just shrugged in reply to his insistence that he wouldn’t want the letter back. It might be weeks, even months, but she knew he’d eventually treasure the letter from the girl he loved. If not, well, Brittany would keep it safe anyway.
She nodded and tried to give him a smile, but it came out more pained than genuine. “I hope you’re right. Papa Fabray isn’t very excitable, so if he sent them away, it’s something pretty huge. I can’t even imagine where they are. He would have sent them the last place anyone would think to look. For all I know, they’re staying at some hostel in Knockturn Alley, but they could just as easily be in Tokyo or Iceland.” She ran her long fingers through her hair and sighed. “If she comes back, she’ll want to see you, you know. Just because she wants you to be happy, wants you to have the opportunity to find love again, doesn’t mean that she’ll ever stop loving you.”
